LIVING IN BUSH'S AMERIKA by The Cosmic Messenger

"Man was/is born free, and everywhere he is in chains. One who believes himself the master of others is nonetheless a greater slave than they" ... Jean Jaques Rousseau

Yesterday the nation celebrated Valentine's Day, the annual day in which we profess our love for the significant other in our lives. With its passing though I couldn't help but wonder whether Washington legislators sent Lady Liberty a card for the occasion, an intimate relationship they've exploited egregiously to redefine the meaning of American freedom.

As 2007 unfolds, the elected leadership on both sides of the political aisle in Amerika appear determined to chart a destiny for the world using the same flawed rationale prior to the November elections. Conservatives joined by their commercial media cohorts have locked arms to impose upon us what they insist must be done to save humanity for the benefit of the next generation of corporate warlords.

Although some of the faces have changed on Capitol Hill and amongst Pentagon strategists the message remains the same. These contemporary taskmasters have returned to the same cunning logic used to manipulate Americans into supporting the illegal invaision of Iraq. Its substance is built on hollow notions, questionable evidence and slick talking points to justify expanding conflict in the Middle East. Further compounding the situation is their use of psychological fear to persuade the nation to accept the agenda they've devised.

Most citizens acquiesced to the war plans based on blind nationalism in 2003 but the majority of them failed to recognize it meant suspending many of the Constitutional freedoms they took for granted. Those who did make the distinction, falsely assumed the rollback of their rights would be temporary rather than permanent and restored after hostilities ceased.

Regrettably Americans are being to realize the Patriot Act, proclaimed as necessary for winning the battle against terror has become an indefinite license for their government to not only tread upon the rights of foreign sovereign countries but their own domestic independence as well. Extending the Iraq war to neighboring Iran enables our present leadership to place the country in a state of perpetual armed turmoil, permeates the abatement of individual liberty and paves the way for the corporate takeover of our government.

The following list can be found at the Progressive Review whose link is available in the right index of "The Cosmic Message." It's prefaced with an editorial note stating:

"Some of these symptoms are found in non-fascist countries where they should be treated as serious warning signs. On the other hand, fascist states - unlike democratic nations - have many, if not all, of these symptoms."

Read through them and discern for yourself whether any of the points below are similar to what you may have encountered personally or believe is happening in the United States today. The charges reiterate many of the statements suggested in the movie, the consequence of which could have a direct impact on your Constitutional freedoms if fully implemented.

  • Your president asserts the right to ignore part or all of laws passed by the national legislature.

  • Massive warrantless searches

  • Your president and other officials regularly lie to you

  • Fraudulent election counts

  • Government monitoring of letters, emails, phone calls and checking accounts

  • Secret courts

  • A government subservient to the interests of the country's largest corporations.

  • Courts that support presidential use of unconstitutional powers

  • Massive spying on citizens, especially those involved in political dissent

  • A government that uses words like democracy, freedom and peace while engaging in acts dramatically at odds with such words

  • Government agencies or officials declaring themselves exempt from portions of the law or constitution

  • Creation of watchlists, no-fly lists and similar exclusionary documents

  • National ID cards

  • Growing number of citizens incarcerated for a growing number of offenses

  • Massive use of cameras to spy on citizens

  • A media supportive of or obsequious towards the government in covering its police state activities

  • Security bubble around government leaders' public appearances including preselected audiences and limit on proximity of protests

  • Disarming of citizenry

  • Dissent characterized as disloyal by government and its supporting media

  • Increasing government control over private behavior

  • Lack of legal recourse to stop illegal government actions

  • Prison without trial and arrests without charges

  • It is difficult to borrow books from libraries pertaining to controversial subjects such as communism, socialism and fascism.

  • Transfer of powers from legislatures to executive

  • Assassinations of popular public figures

  • Expansion of prisons and laws that lead people to prisons

  • President claims right to make war whenever he wants

  • Words misused to mean their opposite: i.e. peace for war, democracy for fascism

  • The president sets himself up as the sole moral authority for the entire country, using his personal beliefs as the basis on which to declare what is 'good' and what is 'evil.'

  • Federal takeover of functions formerly considered essential state or local responsibilities such as state militias and public educatiion.

  • Creation of a mercenary military force used for foreign and domestic purposes

Howard Zinn editorialized in the February 2007 edition of Progressive Magazine that "courage is in short supply in Washington, D.C." these days. He reminded Democrats of their obligation to protect "the equal right of all to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." Zinn further emphasized this was critical given the ideological goals of the West Wing.

"There seems to be a special viciousness that accompanies the current assault on human rights in this country and in the world. We have had repressive governments before, but none has legislated the end of habeas corpus, nor openly supported torture, nor declared the possibility of war without end. No government has so casually ignored the will of the people, affirmed the right of the President to ignore the Constitution, even to set aside laws passed by Congress."

My sentiments exactly as well as the majority of citizens today. What America needs now are leaders with the fortitude to preserve democracy rather than replace it with a corporate plutocracy dedicated only to maximizing profits at the expense of the Constitutional rights of the people they were elected to serve.

THE NEW OCTOBER SURPRISE by The Cosmic Messenger

"It is the job of thinking people not to be on the side of the executioners" ... Albert Camus

The final weekend of January put the nation's anxieties over President Bush's troop esculation scheme on public display for the rest of of the world to witness as emotions spilled over into the streets of our cities from coast to coast. It was the second time in three months Americans have demonstrably told their elected leaders they want change rather than grandiosity.

For some like the corporate media the occasion was an opportunity to document the rallies with the latest digital tech innovations complete with sound bites accented by a female blonde reporter describing the action as if it were a sporting event. Just like the upcoming Super Bowl, there were video pans of jubilant crowds screaming at cameras with banners held high urging their team on towards victory. News room directors must have been elated as live stand-ups from the scene were immediately broadcast into living rooms packaged around five minute commercial segments encouraging us to partake in some of the same excessive desires which many individuals were there to protest against. As I watched the evening news, I was impinged by the irony I was observing and how easily the Fourth Estate had lost its clarity of purpose.

Besides the celluloid crowd stealth observers were in the mix too. Media consultants representing potential 2008 Presidential wannabees were there with video camera phones capturing all that was said and done to use against rival aspirants. Pen and pencil reporters from the previous century attended as well meticulously gathering facts with hand-held micro recorders to playback as they wrote stories for their papers' deadlines to be consumed by subscribers the following day.

Even more ominous and carelessly overlooked by the commercial press as they rushed to sell us their contemporary narratives was the presence of earthy looking figures interspersed within the crowds masquerading as demonstrators but whose mission was as covert operatives for Bush's Homeland security offensive.

Indistinguishable to the casual observer, the level of sophistication setting them apart was the tiny headsets protruding from their ears which could have easily been mistaken for Ipod fashion. They were present to assemble intelligence such as social demographics, behavior patterns and organizational networks represented. The subsequent data collected will be used to establish martial law over the American civilian population as citizens react to the anticipated nuclear bombing offensive against Iran planned for the Fall.

Instead of maligning my allegation with a Cheney-like response such as "hogwash" I encourage you to examine some recent compelling public evidence before reaching a personal conclusion.

In an interview with reporter Juan Williams of NPR on January 29, President Bush stated he will do "whatever it takes" to defend U.S. soldiers without invading Iran. He qualified his assertion by saying, "if Iran escalates its military action in Iraq to the detriment of our troops we will respond firmly."

The emphatic tough rhetoric by Bush follows after having sent a "special operations" military force inside of Iran during 2006 to target facilities with laser tags used to guide missles launched from U.S aircraft carriers in the Persian Gulf. Extensive use of satellite reconnaissance was employed to direct the ground unit to potential sites to be hit. The presence of a covert team inside of Iran was first reported by Seymour Hersh on April 17, 2006 in an article titled "The Iran Plans" for the New Yorker magazine relying on extensive quotes and background information from former Defense officials. Hersh's column also revealed one of the principal sources of opposition to using the "nuclear option" against Iran had come from the Joint Chiefs Of Staff.

Still not convinced where Bush is taking us ?

Although the President claims he won't invade Iran with ground forces, Bush declares he'll answer resolutely without revealing what plan of action he intends to use. His ambiguous message is no accident, intended to warn their leaders and our own Congress tactical nuclear weapons will be authorized to attain his objective of overthrowing Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. To reinforce his commitment, Bush recently sent Secretary Of State Condoleezza Rice to the Middle East to build support from moderate Arab states for an attack against Iran. In a report published online by Tom Paine magazine January 25, independent journalist Issandr El Amrani described the trip as an effort to form a coalition of regional Middle Eastern states with Israel in preparation for the Iran bombing. Additionally, it was intended to encourage these countries to increase their own oil production to compensate for damage done to Iranian crude output in the strike's aftermath.

Like pieces on a game board, the Commander In Chief began moving crucial elements of the Iran strategy into place when he ordered a surveillance team into the country last year. This was followed by purging the Pentagon ranks of leaders who opposed his intentions during the Summer and Fall and capped with the recent whirlwind diplomatic tour of Rice throughout the Middle East. What remains is subservient policy advisors unwilling to oppose the President's ambitions. Names like Hadley, Negroponte, Bolton and Abrams who share Bush's vision for his final solution determining the destiny of the Arab OPEC nations.

On the military side of the ledger the following men were inserted to insure the objectives are carried out successfully:

  • ROBERT GATES: Defense Secretary

  • GENERAL PETER PACE: Chairman Of The Joint Chiefs Of Staff

  • ADMIRAL WILLIAM FALLON: Head Of Central Command For Iraq & Afghanistan

  • GENERAL DAVID PETRAEUS: Commander Of Ground Forces In Iraq

Each man was brought in to enforce the new attack plan and all have assured Congress they'll be kept informed of the progress made. Their unanimous solidarity offers the same generalization ...... "we should know by the Fall whether the strategy is working."

COMMANDER SURGE'S ANTHEM

Based on what is known about Bush and Cheney's megalomania for saving the world from an exaggerated threat of terrorism, Americans must recognize what these latest equivocations really mean. The new scheme is nothing more than a stall maneuver until the Fall to give the recently established tin men of the White House time to solidfy plans for the nuclear missile bombardment of Iran and win support from Congressional skeptics.

It will be the "New October Surprise" launched just prior to the start of the 2008 Presidential campaign intended to shock citizens into patriotic support of the neocon agenda and regain a legislative majority. In the ensuing chaotic aftermath as domestic gas prices climb to stratospheric levels and rioting occurs in the streets, Bush will issue an Executive order imposing martial law throughout the United States. A plan devised by Oliver North in the 1980's for FEMA to control dissident crowds utilizing private security contractors deputized by the President will patrol the streets of America. Citizens will be sent to internment camps for processing and all methods of public communication controlled by the government.

The march to end the Iraq war on January 27th was described by critics as aging hippies and their offspring emerging from the shadows into the sunlight across the land for a day of protest. It was much more than that though. The event represented the concerns of a broad cross-section of the population about what our country once had and whether the current leadership is moving us toward a corporate fascist state. The October scenario I've depicted isn't beyond reason but the established media won't tell you about it until after the fact. They are as aware of its likelihood as I am. By then it'll be too late for American democracy as the bombs begin to fall over our own country for the sake of GREED.
